kanakadhara is the another name of Goddess laxmi. Kanak means”gold” dhara means “stream”. It denotes stream of gold.

kanakadhara stotram was written by Adi Sankara. He took sanyasa at the age of height.There is story behind the kanakadhara puja/stotram.One day he was on hungry and reached a home of a very poor Brahmin lady. She has nothing to offer; she searched her house and found one amla (Gooseberry) offered this one fruit to sankara hesitantly. Sankara moved by her selflessness and kindness of this woman then he burst the poetry on Goddess Laxmi with 21 stanzas of songs to pleade her.Goddess appeared before the Sankara and asked about why he remembered her. Sankara pleased Goddess laxmi to reverse the fortune of the poor lady and make her rich by granting wealth. Sankara implored the act of kindness of women. Goddess lakshmi was so moved and she instantly showered with goose berries made of gold in the lady’s house.Thus the power of Kanakadhara stotram.
